Water Management

Securing Our Water Future

San Antonio's proactive approach resulted in a Water Management Plan, which thoughtfully maps out the community's water needs and solutions for the next 50 years.

The 2012 update to the Water Management Plan accounts for the ongoing BexarMet integration and continues to strike a productive balance between water conservation and alternative water supplies outside of the Edwards Aquifer, our primary source of drinking water.

Those alternatives include: Brackish Water Desalination, making salty water from the Wilcox Aquifer drinkable; the Regional Carrizo Project, which will diversify San Antonio's water sources and help meet the city's short- and mid-term water needs beginning in early 2014; and other potential long-term water projects being considered in response to Request for Competitive Sealed Proposals.
