The San Antonio Water System is soliciting bids for biomonitoring services from an accredited
laboratory under National Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Program (NELAP) to provide quality Whole
Effluent Toxicity (WET) analysis required for effluent monitoring by TCEQ and EPA. Specific methodology
relating to Biomonitoring Testing can be found at the EPA website.
The San Antonio Water System (SAWS) is a municipally owned utility that provides water, wastewater, and
recycled water service. The treatment plants operated by SAWS are required by the Texas Commission of
Environmental Quality regulatory agency to monitor for Whole Effluent Toxicity (WET) or Biomonitoring
adhering to a set schedule. The SAWS ELS does not perform these tests in-house and is therefore seeking a
contract lab.
